Charles, 17, undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma

At 17, Charles is a passionate skateboarder. His loved ones describe him as an optimist, a quality that shines through in his outlook on life: taking things one day at a time, making the most of every moment with family and friends, and focusing on life beyond cancer whenever possible.

Diagnosed with osteosarcoma, Charles is currently facing a recurrence. Under the care of Dr. Nicolas Prud’homme at the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre at CHU Sainte-Justine, he recently began a new treatment aimed at slowing the progression of his metastases. Although the treatment comes with its share of side effects, Charles continues to enjoy the activities he loves most.

With a strong desire to help advance research, Charles and his family have chosen to take part in every clinical trial and research study offered to them, hoping their participation will contribute to future breakthroughs for other children and adolescents facing cancer.

When he is not on his skateboard, Charles enjoys spending time with his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Margot. His perfect day is a simple one: sharing a good meal and gathering around a backyard bonfire with family and friends.

If he could have any superpower, it would be the ability to discover a cure, not only for himself, but for every child and teenager facing cancer. Affectionately known as “Charlie” to his friends, he can easily imagine one day opening his own skateboard shop and skate school to share his passion with others.

Filled with gratitude, Charlie wanted to thank the entire oncology team at CHU Sainte-Justine. To him, these professionals are extraordinary, not only for the care and guidance they provide every day, but also for the genuine compassion and dedication they bring to their work.
