Since 100% of Quebec children diagnosed with cancer are cared for at a Centre Charles-Bruneau or Unité Charles-Bruneau, the cyclists will also be riding throughout the province, to raise awareness of the cause and the Foundation's impact. From Saint-Georges de Beauce, via Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Gatineau and Saint-Hyacinthe, everyone will meet up for the traditional grand finish in Boucherville, birthplace of Charles Bruneau.
Involved in spreading the word
For this 27th edition, six children undergoing cancer treatment or in remission have been chosen as the event's Heroes and Heroines. Hailing from the four corners of Quebec, Charles, Olivia, Malik, Alyah, Mia and Victoria will be cheering on the cyclists as they take up this challenge, so that every young person can grow up healthy.
In brief - Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau 2023
Together on the road to recovery
Throughout the event, each cyclist is symbolically paired with a child who is suffering from or in remission from cancer, or who has passed away from the disease. Each cyclist proudly wears, close to the heart, a button bearing the photo of the child he or she will meet during the event. In all, some 60 children are matched with cyclists.
Quotes
"It's a real pleasure for me to be the new spokesperson for the Charles-Bruneau Foundation. The Foundation's mission and its events are close to my heart, and it was a nice surprise to be able to officially join the team. Every year, I'm blown away by people's generosity and their commitment to advancing research. My wish: to continue to help fund imminent projects that will enable children to receive less invasive treatments, so as to limit long-term sequelae. Together, we can make it happen!
- Florence Breton, spokesperson for the Charles-Bruneau Foundation
"As with every edition, I'll be pedaling, only from a distance this time, as I'm currently out of the country. It's a great feeling to share this mission with so many people. I'm always moved to see that people come out year after year to support the cause and help put an end to pediatric cancer. Thank you all for getting involved in such a wonderful way to make Charles' dream come true.
- Pierre Bruneau, spokesperson for the Charles-Bruneau Foundation
