Profile and story
Zoé was only three years old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre at CHU Sainte-Justine. For her parents, the news turned their world upside down.
“Suddenly, there is total silence. Everything you imagined for the future disappears. The ground gives way beneath your feet. You fall into a black hole and have no idea where the bottom is,” they recall.
The treatments brought their share of challenges, including severe bone fragility that resulted in a painful femur fracture.
Fortunately, Zoé is about to reach a major milestone this summer. After years of annual follow-up appointments, her visit this coming August will be her last as a patient in remission, as she will officially be declared cured.
Zoé loves doing impressions and making her family laugh. One of her greatest accomplishments is participating in dance competitions. For her, life is all about movement. She plays softball and spends countless hours dancing. In fact, dance is such a big part of her life that she dreams of one day teaching it to others.
With hearts full of gratitude, her parents share this message with the cyclists and supporters of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau:
“Without you and your efforts, we would likely have lost our daughter. Thanks to you, we are about to celebrate Zoé being fully cured. Thank you for saving her life.”
