Profile and story
Raphaël, 15, cured of brain cancer (medulloblastoma)
On June 17, 2015, Raphaël’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Due to complications related to his medulloblastoma, his stay at the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre at the Montreal Children’s Hospital extended over several particularly difficult weeks. Faced with this challenge, little “Raph,” who was only four years old at the time, drew on remarkable inner strength. Calm, curious and quietly determined, he navigated this period without ever losing his trademark smile.
Raphaël has been in remission since March 2016 and, ten years later, is now officially cured. Today, his medical follow-up is much lighter, consisting of an annual checkup and brain MRI. The determination he showed throughout his treatment is now reflected in many aspects of his life as a teenager. His parents are especially proud of the school perseverance award he recently received, a recognition they feel is well deserved.
Today, this passionate history enthusiast enjoys immersing himself in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, building LEGO® creations, listening to music and playing street hockey with his friends. For Raphaël, happiness lies in life’s simple pleasures: spending time with loved ones, gathering around a game or setting off on a family trip.
Grateful for the compassionate care that surrounded their son throughout his journey, his parents emphasize the importance of supporting pediatric cancer care and research: “For us, the Fondation Charles-Bruneau represents a unique pediatric oncology care environment, truly adapted to the needs of children and their families.”
