Profile and story
Myriam, 16, in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia
It all began when Myriam’s mother noticed that something was wrong with her five-year-old daughter. After a series of medical evaluations at CHU Sainte-Justine, Myriam was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Now 16 years old, she is in remission. Sensitive, sociable and full of energy, the teenager affectionately nicknamed “Mimi” is a proud high school student.
Although she only returns to the hospital once a year for routine follow-up appointments, Myriam continues to live with the long-term effects of her treatment. Chemotherapy caused severe gastroparesis, a condition she manages every day. Despite these challenges, she embraces life with enthusiasm. She loves volleyball, flag football, shopping and listening to Olivia Rodrigo. Her biggest dream is to travel the world, and she hopes to become a paramedic one day.
For Mimi, nothing matters more than spending time with her family and sharing laughter with the people she loves.
For her parents, the Fondation Charles-Bruneau played an important role throughout their daughter’s journey. Myriam wanted to share this message with the cyclists and supporters of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau: “Thank you for helping advance research so that one day, pediatric cancer will no longer take the life of any child.”
