Miro, 7, cured of stage 4S neuroblastoma with N-MYC amplification
On August 23, 2019, Miro’s parents were overcome with worry when their baby boy, just two months old at the time, was diagnosed with stage 4S neuroblastoma with N-MYC amplification. Fortunately, panic soon gave way to hope after reassuring conversations with Dr. Michon, who confirmed that a treatment protocol existed and that everything possible would be done to save their son.
Receiving care at the Charles-Bruneau Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit at CHU de Québec–Université Laval, Miro underwent treatment with remarkable strength and determination. His boundless energy would later earn him a fitting nickname: “Miro the Superhero.”
Today, Miro is celebrating a major milestone. Since last December, he has officially been cured of cancer. While cancer is no longer part of his daily life, the young boy from Quebec City has not forgotten the children who are still undergoing treatment. During his routine follow-up appointments, he always makes time to stop by the Charles-Bruneau Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit to visit some of the friends he made along the way.
Funny, energetic and always on the move, Miro is a devoted hockey fan who looks up to Samuel Montembeault and Sidney Crosby. His perfect day would include playing hockey, going swimming and enjoying a few rides at an amusement park.
Miro loves his sister, Géraldine, more than anything in the world. He recently returned from a magical trip to Disney and is already dreaming about going back. Above all, he hopes that every child facing cancer will have the same chance he did: the chance to be cured.
Deeply touched by the generosity shown toward the cause, his parents wanted to share this message with the cyclists and supporters of the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau: “The Fondation Charles-Bruneau is like a second family to us.
