Mathéo, 5, in remission from stage 4 neuroblastoma
On November 9, 2024, Mathéo’s parents sought medical attention after their three-and-a-half-year-old son developed a persistent case of pneumonia. While his respiratory symptoms eventually resolved, Mathéo continued to experience severe pain in his legs and neck. He was quickly referred to CHU de Québec–Université Laval, where a series of tests revealed a stage 4 neuroblastoma.
To treat this complex diagnosis, Mathéo underwent an intensive treatment regimen that included two autologous stem cell transplants at the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre at CHU Sainte-Justine. Throughout every stage of his treatment, he demonstrated remarkable determination and resilience.
Today, Mathéo has reached an important milestone: he is officially in remission, and the end of his treatment protocol is just around the corner. Following his upcoming appointments, his hospital visits will be limited to routine follow-up care.
Mathéo dreams of becoming a doctor so that one day he can help children with cancer, just as others helped him. In the meantime, his perfect day is quite simple: finally being able to jump back into a swimming pool after more than 15 months of restrictions related to his treatment.
A big fan of Récréofun, Mathéo loves dogs, French toast with fruit, and spending time with his dad. Fascinated by superheroes, he would love to have Spider-Man’s ability to shoot webs.
Deeply grateful, his parents wanted to share this message with the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau community: “A huge thank you for your commitment and for helping give children the chance to be cured. Our journey would certainly not have been the same without all the research made possible through your support. Thank you from our entire family. Because of your generosity, children like Mathéo get the chance to simply be kids again.”
