Profile and story
Jacob, 10, in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia
On November 1, 2019, Jacob arrived at CHU Sainte-Justine with his parents, who suspected he had appendicitis. Instead, they received news that would change their lives forever: “Your son has a blood disease, leukemia.”
More specifically, Jacob was diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The journey that followed was filled with challenges and uncertainty. “I had to go through two years of chemotherapy. I couldn’t go swimming or play in the sand anymore, and that made me sad because I really loved those activities. But now I can do them again!” Jacob shares.
Now in remission for four years, Jacob became the first child with this type of leukemia to be cured without undergoing a bone marrow transplant.
Kind-hearted and generous, Jacob loves making his friends laugh and spending time with his family and his two cats. A big fan of cycling and video games, he dreams of becoming a video game developer one day. If he could have any superpower, it would be teleportation, perhaps straight to the new Mario Bros. theme park, which is at the top of his wish list.
Deeply grateful for the care Jacob received and for the research supported by the Fondation Charles-Bruneau, his parents share this message with the cyclists and supporters taking part in the 2026 Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau: “A huge thank you for your involvement. What you do is an incredible gift, and we are extremely grateful. We are proud of each and every one of you.”
