Profile and story
Damien, 8, undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia
In June 2025, at the age of seven, Damien was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It all began when his parents noticed unusual patches on his neck and numerous bruises on his legs. Yet that very same day, Damien was riding his bike and swimming. Following an initial assessment at the Saint-Georges hospital, he was rushed by ambulance to CHU de Québec–Université Laval, where the diagnosis was confirmed the next day.
His parents describe Damien as a cheerful, caring, intelligent and endlessly curious child. Week after week, he approaches each chemotherapy treatment with remarkable determination. A fan of Harry Styles, Damien enjoys reading, doing puzzles and playing video games.
What would he like to be when he grows up? Depending on the day, Damien dreams of becoming an astronaut, a doctor or even a pastry chef. Until he makes up his mind, he especially enjoys spending time with his little sister, having picnics and going to the beach.
For his parents, the Fondation Charles-Bruneau represents hope and the possibility of seeing Damien grow up healthy once his treatments are complete. Grateful for this support, the entire family wanted to share this message with the cyclists and supporters taking part in the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau: “Thank you for your support. Thank you for helping make it possible for children to enjoy a childhood free from cancer.”
