Charlie, 17, in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia

At 17, Charlie is described by her loved ones as a true ray of sunshine. Energetic and always on the go, the young woman from Verchères enjoys dancing, weight training, running, drawing and downhill skiing.

Her oncology journey began at the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre at CHU Sainte-Justine, where she was cared for by Dr. Yves Pastore and Dr. Caroline Laverdière. Now in remission for eight years, Charlie is approaching an important milestone. “Every year, I have follow-up appointments in pediatric oncology, but soon, because I’m turning 18, I’ll be transitioning to adult care,” she explains.

Charlie takes great pride in everything she has overcome and has a clear vision for her future. She dreams of becoming either a doctor or a pharmacist. “I know I’m going to work in healthcare,” she says with confidence.

If she could have any superpower, it would be the ability to heal and save lives.

What would Charlie’s perfect day look like? Spending quality time with the people she loves most. “I love my family and the people around me because they’re my reason for living. I can’t imagine life without them,” says the teenager, who also admits to having a soft spot for cheesy jokes, even when she’s the only one laughing at them.

For Charlie and her loved ones, the Fondation Charles-Bruneau has become like a second family. She wanted to share this message with the cyclists, supporters and donors who make the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau possible: “Thank you for supporting research and for being there for children like me. Without your generosity, many children would not be here today. Thank you for everything.”
