Pierre Delisle is no stranger to the world of business and philanthropy. In 2004, drawing on his experience and professional commitment, he joined the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau committee. At the time, the event was undergoing a major reorganization, and Pierre made a valuable contribution thanks to his previous experience in organizing charitable events, such as golf tournaments for various community causes. His involvement with the Charles-Bruneau Foundation now spans 20 years, testifying to his ongoing dedication and commitment.
"My colleague Werner was with me from the start. We developed a business plan, studied sponsorship with Tennis Canada and proposed the idea to the CIBC. Sylvain Vinet bought into the idea, and that's how it all began," says Pierre. At the time, they were raising $87,000 a year, with a goal of $500,000 over five years. They soon surpassed the $1 million mark. Pierre remained a member of the steering committee until two years ago.
For Pierre, the link with the Fondation Charles-Bruneau is deeply personal. "I've always had a very strong bond with everything to do with children. For me, children are the future," he confides. As the father of three healthy boys, Pierre wanted to give back to the community, especially to sick children.
For those who want to get involved, Pierre recommends choosing a cause that touches them personally. "I always focus on the children's cause. There are 50-kilometre routes that are very feasible for non-cyclists." For him, the important thing is to take part and experience the energy of the last day of the Tour, a moment filled with enthusiasm and emotion.
On retiring this year, Pierre is passing the torch to his son, who will take over with his customers. He hopes that new participants will be able to benefit from this enriching experience and continue the work to prevent recurrences of the disease. "There's still a lot of work to be done. The passion and volunteerism of CIBC employees are essential to this cause, which we have supported for so long," he concludes.
